Tracing the Original Caption — Tracing the Original Caption

Online images are frequently stripped of their original context, making it important to trace their publication history. In copyright terms, simply displaying a photograph publicly does not qualify as official publication.

Instead, publication occurs when copies are distributed or offered for further distribution or display. Distinguishing between a simple public display and formal publication helps clarify the true context of the imagery.
