Publication Date and Original Caption — Publication Date and Original Caption

Check the official publication date of the photograph to verify its timeline. S. Copyright Office guidelines, a photograph is published when copies are distributed to the public, or when copies are offered to a group for further distribution or public display.

Note that the public display of a photograph, in and of itself, does not constitute publication. Tracking the verified publication date helps clarify when the image was first made available.
