Establishing the As-Of Date — Establishing the As-Of Date

Property ownership and residency status can change over time, making it important to establish a clear date for the photograph's publication. Under copyright standards, a photograph is considered published on the specific date that copies are first distributed to the public.

It is also published when copies are offered to a group of persons for further distribution or public display. Establishing this publication date helps researchers verify the timeline of the visual claims.
