Determining What Is Unresolved — Determining What Is Unresolved

Ethical reporting requires acknowledging when certain details of a public-figure story remain completely unresolved. In copyright registration, if an applicant is unsure of the nation where their photographs were first published, they may select 'Not Known' from the options.

Similarly, when a photograph's publication date or origin cannot be verified, it is best practice to explicitly label it as unconfirmed. Acknowledging these gaps in information protects the integrity of the editorial process.
