Reject Speculative Claims — Reject Speculative Claims

Editorial verification requires separating speculative claims from documented facts. For example, under copyright guidelines, the Copyright Office will not register photographs that lack a sufficient amount of creative expression.

Rather than assuming the origin or legitimacy of an unverified image, researchers should look for official documentation. Grounding analysis in verifiable registration details prevents the spread of speculative gossip.
