Tracking Digital Provenance — Tracking Digital Provenance

When navigating digital platforms to track the provenance of media, websites use technical tools to maintain user settings and carry information across pages. For instance, functional cookies can remember that a user has signed up to view content or registered with the site, recognizing their preferences when they return.

These cookies can be set by the platform itself or by third-party providers whose services are integrated into the pages. Understanding how these cookies manage data helps researchers navigate media databases more efficiently while maintaining their preferences.
