The Music Modernization Act — The Music Modernization Act

The Music Modernization Act updated how songwriters and composers are paid royalties when their works are played online. Since January 1, 2021, digital music providers have utilized a blanket license system governed by this law.

To receive these interactive streaming royalties, rightsholders must register their information with the Mechanical Licensing Collective. However, registering with this collective is a separate process and does not replace official copyright registration.
